Katzinger's in Columbus

The Mad Greek | Feb 15, 2004 04:25 PM

Just got back from Katzinger's and I'm more than a little depressed that Cleveland really doesn't have anything like it. (while you CAN get a good sandwich here, I have yet to find a place with an overall high standards that places like Zingerman's/Katzinger's have. Throw in that market and I am hooked.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Superb chopped liver (why is this so hard to find?)

Good bread

EXCELLENT, knowledgeable, and friendly service

The best key lime pie I have ever had. I haven't had KL-pie everywhere, but I love it and know the diff between good and fresh.........and the wannabees.

AWESOME garlic pickles.

Complaints? None, really.

Comparisons with Zingerman's?

SERVICE: Pick'em...both excellent

Chopped liver: Katz

Corned beef: Zing

Bread: Zing....but it was close and that says a lot since Zingerman's bread is super-fantastic, especially since they do so much more than bread.

Finally, as some of you may recall, I posted a thread about trying to find premium chocolate earlier this week in cleveland. Trust me when I tell you that Katzinger's is ALL ABOUT chocolate. Cluizel, El Rey, Valrohna, Dolphin, etc. I left with 3 big bars (Cluizel Hacienda, Noir, and a Valrohna milk/au lait, and a pocketful of Cluizel 99% dark chocolate) Bottom line I left happy, full, and rarein to get back

Disappointments? One.....their chocolate tasting (Cluizel) was sold out for next week.

Better luck next time!

Than ks for the heads-up everyone.

Jack
