Katz Bagels and El Dorado Bakery

I made the trek to Chelsea this morning for my first Katz bagel. If not quite at the level of the best bagels in memmory (minor carp), they are not far off. Definitely the best bagel I've had in the area. I had a plain and a pumpernickel. Both were very good, and certainly in the New York Style, which I prefer.

If you think Chelsea is too far to go just for boiled dough, El Dorado Bakery is less than a block away from Katz. If today's sampling is any indication, the El Dorado - Katz combination certianly merits a trip to Chelsea.

At El Dorado, I had a small round roll, which looked like it would be stuffed with something but was not. I don't know what it was called. The girl at the counter spoke limited English. I do know it was very good. Light, airy, bread with the sweet taste of cheese. I also had something that resembled an empanada and was stuffed with ground beef, rice, and peas. Very tasty. I suspect I'll be back.
