Friday night we ate at Kappa restaurant in SF. This is a small restaurant near Japantown that specializes in Koryori, which is kind of like traditional Japanese tapas. It’s a price fix menu for $85 PP. Everything we ate was delicious. Really good food here. My one criticism was that the pacing of the meal was kind of fast. It would have been more leisurely and enjoyable if the pacing was slower and the meal was stretched out over a longer period of time. But the food was excellent and the service very warm and welcoming. The other thing about this place is that it is expensive, but I think it’s worth it for a special occasion, as Friday night was. You do feel transported to Japan by the ethereal food.

Delicate soup with a whitefish and uni dumpling- very warming. Reminded me of soup I had in Japan.
Seared tuna with white miso sauce-excellent
A plate with a bunch of small delicious things on it. See picture. A large prawn in the middle, asparagus with delicious sauce, seared duck, stewed tuna, grilled salmon ,eggplant with red miso. My favorite thing was the crab croquette. We almost asked for more crab croquettes. It was one of the best things I have eaten in recent memory.
The next plate was a spectacular trio. First a perfect perfect piece of grilled halibut, the best unagi nigiri I have ever eaten and this amazing fresh creamy uni with a savory soy sauce.
A desert plate followed including mocha filled with red bean paste and fresh fruits.
Delicious homemade pear sorbet to finish.
An amazing meal. I will be returning again for a special occasion.
