Josie last night--finally know what the buzz is about! (long)

I had a great evening at Josie last night! Food and service were both excellent. I can now join you all in strongly recommending this restaurant.

For an appetizer, husband and I shared a special--beef cheeks and pasta. It was a pricey appetizer ($26?), but the beef was amazingly, melt-in-your-mouth tender, very tasty, and the portion was so large that it was pretty much entree-sized. They split it into 2 dishes for us, with no splitting fee (I'm thinking about that recent Il Grano review...). While we were waiting for our appetizer, they brought over 2 slices of a mushroom and gruyere quiche, at no charge!! It was delicious. FYI, a couple of appetizers listed on the website (www.josierestaurant.com) were not listed on the menu (e.g, no more poached white asparagus, which I had been eyeing online), and there were a couple of new appetizers to replace them.

For entrees, I had the seared scallops and my husband had the venison. Both were excellent. The scallops were extremely tasty and perfectly complemented by sweet and tangy onions. The venison was served medium-rare, and had a really rich flavor. It was complemented well by grainy rice w/ pecans and a sweet, flavorful chinese eggplant. We also ordered a side of truffle fries. Be forwarned that the portion of truffle fries is enormous--way too much for 2 people. I thought the fries were good, but I can't rave about them as others have. I mean they were excellent fries, but I guess I can only get so excited by fries.

For dessert, we ordered the chocolate bread souffle that everyone raves about and the chocolate pave. The chocolate souffle was amazing! Rich chocolate, the perfect texture (soft and very moist without being complete mush), and perfectly complemented by the creamiest vanilla ice cream I've ever had. If you are a serious chocolate-lover, the chocolate pave was equally amazing. Like a rich, decadent truffle, servesd with wonderful hazelnut icecream to complement the richness.

The service was wonderful. We were treated like royalty, despite being younger than other patrons (see my recent negative review of Bistro 45). Very nice and attentive staff. All in all, it was a great dining experience!
