New Johnny G's in CM run by old owners of Cafe Plaka

i'm a teacher at fountain valley hs and two of the gianakakos daughters (original owners of cafe plaka) have been students of mine.

after they sold cafe plaka they told me that they might open a small greek restaurant on 19th street in costa mesa.

they opened Johnny G's (for gianakakos) about a month ago just east of Taco Mesa.

I decided to stop in for a second while picking up some taco mesa.

It's more a a burger/mexican food joint then a greek place. It also serves breakfast burritos and pancakes. There is hummus, taziki, gyros, and a few other greek items. They had quite a few handmade signs offering new items not on the menu so maybe they're still experimenting. My wife is vegetarian so i didn't really have any choices with the greek fare. The hummus and taziki were really good. way better than that gross stuff they try to pass off at the various daphne's across OC. I asked the worker to tell them that we would like a falafel sandwich or dinner plate.

i'll check in again later. maybe someone could try the burgers or mex food. they had a pastrami burrito.

just wanted to let you know esp. after reading the cafe plaka post.
