Joan & Ernie’s Deli - Mt. Prospect

Sweet Willie | Oct 5, 2003 02:57 PM

Being a corned beef/deli nut, I had to stop at Joan and Earnie’s Deli as they were proclaiming hot corned beef sandwiches.

I think they took over a taqueria as it smells like tortillas as you enter, not a deli.

Not much décor has gone into their restaurant.

I asked Ernie if he made his own corned beef. He said yes.

Had a hot corned beef on rye. Rye bread was the typical oval one finds most places, corned beef was brisket, tender and was good. Not great, I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but it is better quality than most places and at $4.50 for the sandwich it is a decent value. Hot pastrami is $4.

To be fair I walked into the place at 6:29pm right as he was about to close.

If you are in the area of Oakton & Elmhurst Rd (83) and are jonesen for a corned beef sandwich, you may want to stop in.
