I ate at Japonais last night with a party of 8. We had a 10 PM reservation, but were assured we would most likely be seated earlier if we wished. We arrived at 9:30 PM, and were not seated until 11:20 PM. After complaining about the wait, we were served a round of free drinks upon sitting. We ordered two lobster spring rolls, three shrimp ceviches and four miso soups to start. What arrived was one lobster roll, two ceviches and three miso soups. When we inquired about the remainder of our starters, we were told the kitchen was CLOSED. Typically, a waiter will inform the table that the kitchen is closing in order to place any last minute orders... this was not extended to us.
As with our starters, we were missing two entrees. One filet and one duck NEVER came out. The remainder came out intermittently, and several members of our party were finished before others recieved their entree. The management answered our complaint that this was completely unacceptable by adding two bottles of cheap champagne to the bill and then "comping" them. Dessert was also comped, resulting in a total bill of $378 for the party ($224 was removed).
While our meal was highly discounted and the food was actually very tasty, our experience basically epitomized my worst service experience ever.
