I decided to make a jam roly poly pudding for hubby's birthday tonight, and as I am in the US and could not get suet, I got shortening as a reasonable substitute.
Now I am having doubts as to whether this will work. Has anyone cooked this successfully with shortening instead of suet? Or does anyone have a suet-less recipe?
(I realise some people may not know what jam roly poly is, as it is an English dessert. It is a steamed suet pudding, rolled up, with jam inside. Equally Brits who know what the pudding is, but not what shortening is, its a little bit like lard but softer)
Help!! Need to make in a couple of hours.
