Last night we went to Jake's, and it was delightful - and delicious.
Since Jake's is not in town, it was not listed in the regular Restaurant Week publicity, but offered a Restaurant Week menu anyway.
You can still see the menu (as of today, Saturday) if you go to the website at jakesrestaurant.com. Of course, this lured me in the first place - an enticing menu.
Although the place was completely filled, service was gracious and not at all rushed. It was comfortable, quiet enough to talk, and very satisfying.
I chose the sauteed figs stuffed with gorgonzola, lamb shank, and trio of chocolate desserts. (Details can be seen on the menu page.) Everything was excellent.
A favorite of the evening was the spinach that accompanied the lamb: spinach mixed with carmelized onions, pine nuts, and feta cheese. Marvelous!
The only drawback to Jake's is the parking; you can't. We gave in to valet parking, which cost $8.00. Manayunk parking is impossible on a Friday evening.
But this is a classy place that does everything well. We tend to forget about it because of the location, but it is a destination restaurant for a pleasant night out.
And if they do another Restaurant Week menu next time, we will be there!
