I was having, today, again the fried yucca with fried pork at Atlacatl, and thinking about how much I loved and could not describe the very gentle flavor of yucca. And thought about other interesting nonstandard tuber experiences I've had lately:
Cassava chips, sold in Lu Valle at UCLA. Exceedingly good. More punch than anything in the fancy Terra Chips package.
Grated cold mountain yam with raw quail egg at FuRaiBo. This is one of the only gross-outs I've had in L.A. It looked and tasted exactly how I imagine - well, this is a family website, but let's just say it was white and slimey and drippy and viscous, and was worse than snot. We thought it might be better mixed with rice. It wasn't, really.
Other interesting tubers? Especially fried. I'm into tubers right now.
