Im a little reluctant to reveal this, but a stellar indian snack is the "farari chevdo" produced by Rajbhog Sweets. skinny fried potato sticks accented with spices, nuts raisins, bits of green chili and curry leaf etc, - the sweet salty hot (maybe a little sour) combo is fantastic. Available at Little India on 28th street and, I am sure, also in Jackson Hts.

Similar but not quite so wonderful is a "hot mix" type snack item that is in a green packet and is sweet and sour - carried by Foods of India on Lex from time to time.

The south asians really have it all over us in combining different flavor sensations in one dish.

Warning - With all the indian snack mixes, bhel mix, etc., make sure what you are buying looks fresh and don't expect it to keep for months in storage - these items are still not americanized and are cooked without preservatives, so they do go rancid if they hang around too long.
