Custardthing has come up with an approach to frozen custard that's thunderbolt smart. Why didn't anyone else ever think of this? Rather than the traditional method of serving a few regular flavors plus a rotating assortment of special ones, they keep all flavorings handy and work them, to order, into a custard base with a cool machine called The Big Screw, a "giant super high speed drillpress-blender that we use to infuse only the finest ingredients available." I had a banana frozen custard, and the Big Screw totally and evenly integrated the whole fruit. The result was nothing liek a "mix-in"; it tasted like great banana frozen custard, as if a frozen custard master had taken hours to strike just the right balance. I am REALLY impressed with this place. Texture is absolutely flawless: smooth and friendly yet with ample custardy richness. Sweetness is restrained to just the right point. Great touch, great custard. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. They're looking to franchise. We can only hope.
I tried a brownie, among their small variety of overpriced baked goods, and was not much impressed. Stick to custard.
