What a wonderful find. OK, we know the chef from another sushi bar, and he opened his own place, but I would not have made the second two hour trip to TO if it wasn't good. Ichiban is quality, freshness, and a gorgeous place to eat a fine meal. The sushi and sashimi rivals the best places I have eaten in NY and DC. I mean really fresh, really beautifully presented, and reallllly good. The prices are reasonable, and the other menu items are done well too. My favorite is the yellowtail, the uni, the toro, and whatever else he may have found at the market that is interesting.
Ichiban is at 266 Queens Quay West.
The first time we went, we had been in TO for the weekend. The second time, my craving got the better of me, and back we went. I wish I lived closer. There is only one problem, when to go back to the first sushi bar that always was good but is now on my second place list?
Park in the lot next door, don't park across the street or on the street. The police lie in wait and give out tickets. He does a big takeout business to the condos around, but enjoy the food there, the sushi bar is made with bamboo, as is the floor. The tatami rooms look like they would be fun for an intimate dinner for two, or for a larger crowd who like privacy. Personally, I like to mingle with the other guests at the bar.
