Hydrant Cafe - fun for people & dogs

My wife and I spent Sunday afternoon with our dog at Hydrant Cafe in Venice.

The place opened up back in June, and they have done a tremendously thoughtful job at creating a restaurant fun for humans and canines. All the tables are cemented down, with loops under most to hang a leash; a roll of high-quality plastic bags for cleaning up incidents hangs from a tree on the property; there's even a row of wide stalls with water bowls to keep your dog while you go in and order (known as the "barking lot.") The food is competent Californian sandwiches - lots of hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, and focaccia. The coffee, though costly, is superb.

And, of course, they have a full selection of doggie treats, almost more impressive than their people food. Our dog loved the "Frosty Paws," a special "ice cream" for dogs made from chicken broth and peanut butter frozen together.

All in all, a wonderful way to spend 2+ hours. We would certainly be eager to hear about more dog-friendly restaurants in the LA area...
