Homer's on UWS

Yesterday, I visited this recently-opened "world famous malt shop" located at 487 Amsterdam (between 83rd and 84th, I believe). This faux-fifties place offers burgers, hot dogs, fries, pigs in a blanket, sandwiches, salads, breakfast sandwiches, deep-fried specials (e.g., Twinkies), and daily specials.

I had a wonderful turkey burger with sauteed onions, moist and flavorful. The owner, Jimmy, seems especially proud of his hamburgers and milk shakes and malts.

Homer's offers a cool assortment of drinks -- everything from milkshakes to lime rickeys, brown cows, egg creams, beer, inexpensive wine by the glass or bottle (including blanquette). I was eating light but I can't wait to try some of the other offerings, including sundaes and sweets.

Homer's is open very late on the weekends -- until 3:00 a.m.
