Hollywood Gelato Company is a small, pastel yellow building on Hillhurst, across from The Alcove. If you're like me, you've been waiting literally all year for it to open - and now, finally, it is.
The place is cute inside; along with gelato, they sell coffee, cupcakes, cakes, and (randomly) some greeting and Christmas cards. There is a decent (not huge) selection of flavors. Overall, I thought most of the flavors looked ok, not particularly interesting, and certainly not as interesting as the flavors over at Pazzo Gelato in Silverlake. I chose a small cup ($2.95): blueberry with buttercream cookie and dark chocolate truffle with raspberries. The verdict: good, but not great. The consistency was too creamy, making it taste more like rich ice cream and less like gelato.
Still nice to have a good ice cream shop in the neighborhood, though.
