I see on a thread below about vegetarian dining that people like Hoa Sen... I'm just curious what fans of the place order there.
I understand that it's hard to be "traditional" when making things vegetarian, but they do so many odd things -- they put some sort of imitation vegetarian ham in many dishes, for example. I've tried various soup selections and they always use a very sweet broth as their base (which can *almost,* but not quite, be masked with buckets of hot sauce).
I just figure if I was going about making vegetarian Vietnamese, I could make a really nice broth without meat -- but with all the yummy traditional seasonings, no need to add sweeteners.
I don't know; I haven't eaten there that much yet but I just moved to the area and I have friends who love the place -- I'm still not sure of its appeal. I will say that the people who run the restaurant are lovely, and are very accomodating about any requests.
