If, for whataver reason, you find yourself in Sun Valley, take a moment to stop by Daniel's Tacos on Strathern and Lankership.
You may be a little scared off by the scenario---a shack next to a liquor store---I was even a little more concerned about the dogs running around with no apparent owner.
Don't run off, though.
I ordered a chicken sope, which seemed to be taking a long time to prepare. Then I realized why...no "fast food" here...a 4'10'' older lady was preparing every aspect of my sope right then and there...cooking the thick bread bottom...chopping up the vegetables...slicing the meat. Everything was so fresh. It was topped with a generous portion of beans, chicken, avocado and queso fresco. Perfect proportions of everything, with a salsa verde on the side. Hot, chewy and dense. Oh my lord...this was a serious sope. Enough for a full lunch, it cost me $3.50. DO GO!
Incidentally, nobody there really speaks English and the menu is in Spanish but presumably everyone here knows their foodie terms. For me, this was a sign of good food to come :-)
