The Helmand: still fabulous

Friends staying at the Marlowe gave me an excuse to visit The Helmand again. Kadoo to start (roasted then fried pumpkin or some other winter squash with yogurt and beef sauces, a fascinating sweet/savory combo), and a lamb dopiaza (fire-roasted spicy kebabs with a lentil sauce on good flatbread and bland rice). My friends got green salads, leek & green onion raviolis, and big, meaty lamb chops, which they loved (1st Afghani place for them). A fairly-priced $29 Rioja Riserva alongside.

It was an early dinner, but the place was full by 6:30pm on a rotten, rainy night. About $110 pre-tax/tip. Phenomenal, as usual, and service is so friendly and attentive there. Nice to see good places holding up with consistency.
