New Heights

While I hate slamming restos I almost found my experience at New Heights comical. Had a reso for 5 and three of us arrived before the last two so we sat down and asked for a wine menu. A good ten minutes of our waiter avoiding eye contact later we grabbed another server and asked for the wine menu, all the time we had neither been offered or brought water or bread or anything. Finally the second waiter brings the winelist as the first waiter realizes he has been treating us as if we had the plague. Note: everyone else in our section was enjoying similarly stellar service. We order some wine and some apps and continue to languish. When the food arrives my tartar was well prepared and generally good. My guests had inedible food, at this point we are joking with the guests around us regarding the whole experience. We decided to bail and go elsewhere so I get up and track down my waiter at the bar where he fails to recognize me and I inform him of our decision to leave citing the cataclysmically bad service and food. A hitherto unseen and therefore unhelpful manager stepped in to apologize and pick up the tab for our wine and bad food. Nice gesture, a day late and a dime short but nice anyway. Anyone else had such a charming evening there?
