Whoa is all I can say! Come hungry and SHARE!
DBF and I headed to SD for a long weekend to visit with friends who just bought a condo in Banker's Hill.
Upon arriving at 8:30 on Saturday morning, we dropped off our luggage and started the short trek to Hash House A Go Go on Fifth Street in Hillcrest. The wait was 45 minutes to 1 hour. We weren't starving, so we walked around for about 40 minutes and were seated shortly thereafter.
This place is a mad house. While it added to our wait, I was encourgaged to see that they were able to seat a party of 17 within one hour. The patio was closed due to the rain, so the wait was longer than usual we were told.
Walking to our table, we noticed the portions were HUGE! Smelled and looked fantastic.
We had "Johnny's Hangover Cure" as cocktails. Muddled mint, fresh ginger, limeade and cucumber infused vodka. It was yummy! I'll have to try it at home.
Me -- BBBLT
DBF -- ground turkey, bacon, cheese hash with eggs, potatoes and biscuit
Other guest #1 -- scrambled eggs, toast, tomatoes
Other guest #2 -- Andy's sage fried chicken breakfast with griddled mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs and toast.
Everything was in the $10-$12 range.
My BBBLT arrive and it was two slices of bread, easily 2-3 inches each, 4-5 slices of tomato, lettuce and 16-18 slices of bacon. With a huge side salad with a cucumber dressing. It was ridiculous. The bacon was cooked perfectly, done, but still chewy in places, crispy in others.
The hash was delish, nice and cheesey and the chicken...well, it'll make you want to slap your momma!
I regret that we didn't share. Apparently, it's not discouraged and the portions are so big, I felt bad and wasteful having so much food left over.
The atmosphere is lively and the staff was very competent and friendly.
I'll hit the Hash House again.
