Went to Hamachi last night (20th Street - a few doors down from Gramercy Tavern). The actually served an amuse of white fish. I was a bit surprised...and unfortunately wished they hadn't. It was horrible and caked with mayonnaise. Terrible. The edamame was fine but they didn't have crystal salt on it. Instead they brought out a salt shaker. Huh? Oh well.
But...the other stuff was very good. I ordered the Blue Monkey roll (blue crab, spicy tuna, avocado) and a shrimp tempura roll, a salad and some eel sushi. Other items I tried were the "whatever roll", their dragon roll and beef negamaki...all of which were quite good as well.
And not very expensive. Total bill for 4 including a bottle of saki came to $37/couple before tip. Not bad but avoid the whitefish amuse. Shudder.
