i had not been to HB for awhile. we went to the original branch on 51st at 9th avenue after the hell's kitchen flea market.
we shared a nice refreshing pitcher of light dortmunder pils beer ($12). this was enough for three steins each.
she had an app plate of two large potato pancakes w/ sour cream & applesauce ($4). i had a lunch plate of two cold marinated herring rollmops stuffed with pickled onions, cukes and carrots. this came with sides of pickled cucumbers and dill, saurkraut, green beans and the only warm item delicious fried potato salad w/ bacon ($6.50).
this all turned out to be surprisingly a great idea. despite being a very hot day, the food was not heavy at all, we stayed a long time and were not too full--- you just have to dodge the cream sauce and wurst minefields!
