If my previous post, which I think I lost somewhere in the ch black hole, appears on this board, please forgive the unintentional spamming. Here goes nothing (again)...
Tried the new(er) location of Habana Cafe - original in Downey, which has never dissapointed in the past few years my family has frequented.
Long story short, the best Cuban food I've ever had in OC (been to Havana in CM, Rafi in Tustin before it closed, and Felix in Orange) and definitely worth a try if you like Cuban food or have been thinking about giving it a whirl.
We had the following, all EXCELLENT! Love that they don't skimp on the saffron, nor the portions. This excellence may be a sign of things to come, or just grand opening syndrome - only time will tell. Also, anywhere appropriate, the dishes were garnished with plenty of sweet pimentos. Mmmmm!
Rabo Encendido (oxtail - my FAVE)
Arroz con Pollo ala Chorrera (i.e., rice more soupy like risotto, not so grainy)
Fricasee de Pollo
Bistec de Palomilla
Ensalada de Aguacate (even the avocado was GOOD!)
Flan (a bit heavy, but still yummy)
No on in the family does moros y cristianos (i.e., rice mixed w/ the beans), so the rice and beans separate and the fried platanos maduros (not greasy at all) were also fantastic.
Give it a try. I think you'll like!
