For lack of a better word, I'm looking for something different than the standard diner that has omelettes, french toast, pancakes, waffles and some sandwiches. On GF's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show, he keeps finding places that serve off the beaten track items. Specifically, there's this place that serves a "mish-mash" of hashbrowns, eggs, chorizo, onions and cheese all combined into one glorious, crispy disk of greasy goodness. Or, the place that serves this meatball chili that's served in hamburger buns. I can't really define what this cuisine is, but it's what I expect to find at an authentic diner in the midwest, and I haven't had any luck finding one in NYC.
I guess I'm just sick of the more refined brunch options that NYC is so famous for, yet I want something better than same old diner fare available at every street corner... Any ideas?
