NEW GREEN BO report

mrnyc | Sep 28, 2003 10:20 AM

after reading the thread below i thought it time for a return to NGB. we went yesterday, a saturday, around 4:00pm.

wanting just a quick meal, we shared three items, crispy eel, scallion pancake and of course the crab&pork soup dumplings. two great and one eh. the eh will suprise you.

the first two items were stellar. don't think i've ever had better pancake and these are real consistant. my spouse was dubious that they were the absolute best and likes more scallion in hers but i felt strongly they were excellent and well...i'm the one who posts on here!

the crispy eel is also very very tasty and we both wholeheartedly agreed on that. the bbq sauce is not too overly sweet and the fresh ginger slivers are such a nice refreshing foil. this dish is music and also very consistant over time.

the soup dumplings...ooh. they were not so good this time sorry to say. not bad just 'eh.' they were thick, the filling was a hard block and not a good mix, and the soup was flavorless. so they just made no impression. typically in the past you talk about them while eat them and afterward too but not this time. instead, our food talk was all crispy eel and pancake discussion. very unusual. well, fwiw there were two guys making them up front who i've never seen before, not the ladies i've usually seen. so looking back on it, i'm suprised. last sd's i had at EVERGREEN i enjoyed more.

fyi--no evil waiter spotted, i know who he is, and the lady who is the owner was keeping things going very smoothly. we were sat right away but there was a line out the door when we left. cost was $16 w/o tip.
