I've been complaining for years about the lack of a Greek restaurant in Morris County. Last week a co-worker gave me a review of the Plaka Taverna. I was in the area last night and gave it a try. Let's get the negatives out of the way first. It is in a very unattractive strip mall with quite a few closed stores. The place appears to be a converted diner. It has the requisite murals of Greece on the walls and it is lit by way too many fluorescent lights. That's the bad news. The menu is a bit more interesting than your average Greek place and the prices are reasonable. It's a BYO. I had the grilled octopus to start. Perfectly grilled. Crisp outside, soft and warm inside served with a simple olive oil, vinegar and parsley dressing. Followed by lamb and orzo described in the newspaper review. It was good, even if the lamb was a tad tough. The waitress told me she had the same dish with chicken and that it was very good. I should have heeded her advice. No room for dessert, but was offered a home-made cookie. Delicious. I'll be going back.
