In the last few weeks, I am happy to say, I have had the opportunity to have some fabulous meals. Two weeks ago, I went to Melisse to have a celebratory meal. My husband and I chose the 'cart blanche' tasting menu where the chef sends out many courses and the diner does not need to make any choices. It is a lesson in trust and boy was it awesome! From the truffled egg- which is like nothing i have ever experienced before (soft egg yolk in the center surrounded by whipped egg whites topped with fresh shaved truffles served with toasted brioch!!!)- to the duo of foie gras (terrine & sauteed, sublime) it was perhaps the best meal of my life. We had far too many couses to list or remember but each was perfectly prepared & sized. Although this dinner was very expensive ($145pp) it was well worth it. In my opinion, Josiah is the most talented chef in LA.
Last weekend, we went to Wilson's in Culver City before seeing a movie. I was pleasantly suprised. The food was simple but top notch, with everything prepared perfectly and all fresh local ingredients. We started with an heirloom and formagge blanc salad.....how could we go wrong? it was lovely, tho I would have like a bit more cheese. Then we shared a pasta & truffle dish (i am so spoiled) which was lovely....the sauce was a bit heavier than i am use to but nice none the less. The chef came over to shave the truffled over our pasta- I thought he could have been a bit more amicable but his apathy won't keep me from returning. We finished with the pork dish which was delicious... braised, fork tender, and the monkfish for me....which was also wonderful. What was especially nice was that all the sides seemed to have been prepared so lovingly- something I always appreciate.
