Had a great relaxed Sunday w/ my girl :)
Lunch at Atasca in Cambridge--sat outside on their lovely patio on a beautiful day and enjoyed four shared dishes. Octopus salad was tasty & exotic-ly spiced over greens w/ a nice texture. Tomato and cheese was another very nice simple dish w/ subtle touches. Grilled head on shrimp(4) were tasty and smoky , but the fava bean dish was more stewed, than 'fresh' tasting...fine, but we had better last week at Taberno de Haro.Good bread and dipping oil served- Nice service and 2 glasses of nice red vino from Portugal.(I'm goin' to Portugal in July!!)
Later on had a fantastic meal and general experience at Rendezvous, also in Cambridge. This was a Sunday night, so got to check out the Prix fix deal at 3 courses for $33. Get here! Lots of great choices w/flexibility. I opted for a starter of a soft shell crab in a delicious curry-like spice sauce w/ delicious herb-y salad underneath.REALLY beautiful! For main I had the Fish Stew(Portugual?) w/ haddock,clams,bacalou,shrimp--hearty and delicious--great broth...My girlfriend had the scallops in a green sauce(cilantro) which was really fantastic--then she had the skate in brown butter & capers that is always my fave.Desert is the 3rd course --I had wonderful crepes filled w/ strawberries & rhubarb seved w/ creme fraise;my girl had a nice fruit custard-y thing w/ a name I was not familiar.
In addition to this incredible deal for $33 they offered wine specials by the glass for $7--I had an Italian red-she has a delicious Sauvignon Blanc that really went well w/ everything ;)
Oh yeah-even great bread and butter!
Great service! Steve Johnson, the owner, seems to always be there, doing a little of everything--pouring water even. Very friendly and pleasant man doing a great job!!
