Went to Simba Grill (Donlands & O'Connor) just before xmas, based on the review in The Star and positive comments on this board.
The food was terrific - we had the mixed grill - which was a variety of grilled meats, along with salad and fries. You also get an appetizer called mogo, which is a root vegetable, fried and served with a variety of sauces.
I wish we were a bit more adventurous, and had tried some of the more traditional ugali curry dishes. There's always next time. :)
We had a Tanzanian ice cream dish for dessert. The owner told us that he makes the ice cream himself. It is a large chunk of ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce, and then sprinkled generously with crushed nuts (pistachios, I believe). The only thing I would have changed here is the chocolate sauce. After painstakingly making your own ice cream, it seems a shame to top it off with a Brown Cow-type chocolate sauce. Something a bit higher end, or even homemade again, would have been spectacular.
All in all - a good experience. Bill was just over $30 or $35 for dinner for two, dessert, two large masala teas, and two cans of pop.
