We found another goodie!
After reading Maxine Keyser's review of Cucina Forte (768 So. 8th Street) in the Citypaper this past week, we decided to try it last night.
What a delight!
It's a pretty place, BYOB.
We shared an appetizer of the highly-praised spinach gnocchi. I rarely order gnocchi, usually finding it too heavy and filling. These were ambrosial! There is a choice of marinara or gorgonzola sauce; we chose the gorgonzola. Next time I won't share. I also want to try the ricotta gnocchi, which the review says were equally as good. We also shared the grilled calimari; they were the large ones, and tasty.
We each had a veal dish; both excellent. For dessert, we shared the ricotta cheesecake. It was in an individual ramekin, and was a bit like a souffle, with a lemony flavor - absolutely divine. I won't share that again; I want my own!
Although the veal dishes were excellent, I think that next time I would have a salad and a pasta entree.
This place passed my top test: I have a longing to go back for that gnocchi (and the cheesecake).
Service was topnotch, and they take reservations.
