Three of us had an excellent dinner last night at Erewan, a Thai restaurant at 23rd and Sansom. We were the only folks there, which really was a shame. It's a nice clean place. We looked over the menu, which included a page of specials, and then asked the waitress to recommend the best dishes after letting her know that we would like real Thai, as opposed to American Thai, food. She was quite helpful throughout the evening. She pointed us to the special lemon grass seafood soup. The rich, flavorful, spicy broth was packed with fresh seafood, probably one of the best renditions of this I've had. We also shared a Thai salad, which is make like a green papaya salad but with cabbage instead. That was delicious too. For entrees we had three specials: sauteed eggplant with vegetables, crispy duck with pineapple, and a spicy tofu, chicken and vegetable curry. All were very good but the duck was truly exquisite. It was also quite a lot of food. We shared a taro root "creme brulee" for dessert as we were very full but wanted a taste of something sweet. This was the only dish the waitress did not recommend, but my friends did not follow up on her hints to order the sticky rice with mango or the warm black rice pudding. It was OK but nothing special. We will listen to the waitress next time as all of her other recommendations were right on.
So folks, if you want good Thai, I strongly recommend supporting this place. I'd hate to see them go out of business.
