I have been craving Cal-Mex style burritos since I moved to NYC. I recently discovered Uncle Moe's Burrito and Taco on 19th, I was so impressed by my first burrito that I returned three times over the next two weeks to explore the menu.
My favorite burrito is the pork with red chili. The green chicken and pumpkin seed filling is also outstanding. The chili rellenos are okay, but are like chili cheese omelets, as opposed to the fritter-like rellenos I'm used to. The masa part of the chicken tamale is boring, but the shredded rotisserie chicken component is delicious.
Moe's serves some of the best red beans I've ever tasted. The beans are plump with a creamy mouthfeel and a hint of garlic. I suspect some of the depth of flavor comes from pork products, perhaps even lard. Mmm.
