Howdy all -
Back in town after a week away in NC on business, and I'm seriously craving a bread pudding that can rival the one I had at Enoteca Vin in Raleigh.
[Off topic, but for those who are interested: Enoteca Vin is a sort of junior-varsity version of A.O.C., with a big wine bar, nice charcuterie and cheese plates, tapas, etc. A little more low-key, Southern-tinged, and half the price, though.]
Anyhoo, this bread pudding was made from firm Southern buttermilk biscuits (almost scone-like), laced with fresh peach slices, served hot with a scoop of homemade blueberry ice cream on top, sprinkled lightly with confectioner's sugar and lavendar petals.
Wow! I'm not normally a big bread pudding person, but this one rocked my world. There was enough sweetness in the peaches and biscuits, so there wasn't too much additional sugar mixed into the pudding; plus the whole thing was firmer and had more basic *structure* than most bread puddings I've had before. Basically, it avoided the twin pitfalls of oversweetness and mushiness that plague most inferior versions. And the blueberry ice cream and lavender worked perfectly with it. I wish I could wax poetic about this dessert, but I'd be encroaching on Thi's territory with vastly less competence ...
Anything comparable (or at least really good) in this neck of the woods? Thanks in advance from a seriously jones-ing hound ....
