Grace -- terrific dinner last night!

The hubby and I had our first anniversary dinner at Grace last night and had a wonderful time. Full disclosure here -- after four months of dieting, this was my first "official" night off so I took full advantage (i.e. carbs -- lookout!).

First, started with a mozzarella stuffed blossom apps that, admittedly, I probably wouldn't have normally chosen. It was very good, mind you, but not the most "gourmet" dish though it more than fulfilled my fried food indulgence! Husband had a lobster pasta starter which was wonderful (but very much a solo apps, apps portions were small) and then followed with the Alaskan Halibut. I'm always amazed that my husband chooses what I deem as "diet food" when we eat out -- hey, maybe that's why he doesn't have a weight problem! For my entree, I chose lamb and they cooked it to my specifications – medium-well and though most chefs would faint at the order, it was wonderful. They let me switch-out the sides with no problem (a feat in itself) and I was able to get the polenta w/ butternut squash -- amazing. We were treated to a complimentary dessert (my husband had shot at Grace before and they remembered him) -- the famous donuts and a flan-type dish that my husband appreciated (I'm not a fan of custard). It was very sweet, our server knew I was taking a night off from my diet and was on a carb-mission, so he personally chose the donuts for me. Four mini-donuts came, I could only manage to indulge in two of them – the chocolate and coconut, good choice! Yes, more than worth the calories and the “I’m sooo full…” feeling. Not only were we treated to dessert, but they gave us a "next morning" little box filled with delectable pastries and croissants which we just enjoyed. That was sooo nice of them! A really nice touch.

For drinks, we each had a glass of Champaign (we're both light-weights, normally we split a glass of wine -- I know, pathetic). The food was just top-notch, and it was the perfect mid-week, ‘don't want to get too dressed up’, but still be special enough to celebrate a big occasion.

Interesting, the place didn't fill up until 8:30pm, are people eating dinner later? Our reservations were at 7:30pm and there was hardly anyone there. Maybe there was an event or something going on.
