Just returned from Sunday lunch at Gorikee. Thanks to the hounds before us for scoping this lovely place out.
We bought a bottle of Rodney Strong Pinot Noir next door at Von's and brought it with us. We were the only ones there throughout our lunch so were doted on by Patrick, the maitre d'/waiter.
He kindly involved us in an additional tasting of some of the wines their wholesaler has been suggesting to them that they add to their list. We shared some of ours with the chef, who also came out to chat.
On the lunch menu they offer, at $9.95, something they call Gourmet Palate. Curiously, it was not on my wife's menu, but was on mine. It starts with soup (today, a pleasantly garlicy, leeky, oniony, gingery, broth with chuncks of potato. It was followed by a plate with a perfectly crisp piece of chicken with garlic sauce, combined with a small filet of wild salmon. In the middle of the plate was a salad. It was also served with steamed rice.
Simply put, this is a steal! The chicken was absolutely perfect, and the salmon was also very good.
This is just a simple bistro with a lovely patio that will be great when the weather calms down a bit. It is the kind of place that every neighborhood should have at least one of, but so few do.
