A while back critical1 posted that the best Chinese food in the area is in Naperville; forget Chinatown. He & I skirmished about this, and particularly about one place, Old Peking. Well, today's Tribune has a cover article on places diplomats recommend for genuine food. And c-1 has now been proven right by no less authorities than the Thai and Chinese consuls, and Monica Eng (so we do have to take it somewhat seriously, don't we?).
As I chewed my cereal, I was surprised to see the Thai place they recommended is Pad Thai, etc. in Wheaton. But then I choked to see the Chinese place is Old Peking (!!!!) in Naperville. Who needs the city - we have it all.
So, critical1, I admit I have only eaten at Old Peking for lunch and never really pushed them. And it seems to be very similar to Fabulous Noodles - Hong Kong owners, primarily Cantonese in style, even some of the dishes Fab N specializes in (Salty Crispy Squid and Vegetarian Chicken) mentioned in the article - but the time has come to go have a real meal there and push them a little.
Has anyone tried Pad Thai, etc? Do you think they have a secret menu? I will explore soon and report back.
