Stopped going to Timothy’s, their food is really bad and the coffee is not much better, then the other place, it’s been so long I can’t even remember their name, well their coffee is poor at best, and the food is the same as Timothy’s. Tim Horton’s coffee and foods are, well I will use the washroom now and then! Starbucks is costly at times, but the coffee is consistent, not always good but drinkable, but the food has not been edible for some time, I remember some time ago they used to have chocolate mousse at some locations. Who would think that your butcher would sell a good coffee? Well Medium Rare does (http://www.mediumrare.to/), and it is really good coffee!
Picked up a bag of Roastery 23 Liquid Mettle coffee, it is a darker roast, made with organic Arabica beans. Opened the bag and the coffee did not smell like anything special. Ground up some beans and brought some water up to 200˚f, allowed the hot water and coffee to sit for 5 minutes in my French Press, and then plunged the beans down and poured a cup of coffee. What a very good cup of coffee and since I love all things to do with chocolate, well this coffee has some nice chocolate after taste, not unlike Mocha coffee beans from Yemen. With it being a dark roast, there are times when a dark roast coffee can become bitter or is bitter to begin with, not this coffee. The dark roast is not so in your face like Starbucks dark roast, I find that Starbucks coffee becomes bitter near the end of the cup; I believe it is because of the very dark roast, which also takes away from the flavour of the coffee.
Tomorrow it will be mocha, this lovely coffee brewed in a mocha pot, and hot chocolate made with real good couverture chocolate from Venezuela, vanilla bean, raw honey, some whipped cream on top and maybe I’ll make some caramel sauce to drizzle over the whipped cream, come on Saturday!
