Golden Gate Bakery sabbatical, Sweet World gone, more.

ChowFun will have to take his egg custard tart cravings elsewhere for the next month, because Golden Gate is closed for its annual vacation break until August 24.

Sweet World, the weirdly eclectic pan-Asian sweets shop at Broadway and Grant, has suddenly vanished, with "Yoogo Gelato" replacing it. Yoogo Gelato has the earmarks of another Asian chain, but Google could tell me nothing about this. It features crepes, espresso and "Tapioca" in addition to gelato -- sort of a Sophie's clone.

Elsewhere on the Chinatown front, the Metro Foods/San Yang Foods legacy of providing Shanghai region specialties on Broadway appears to have perished. With the owners of soon-to-expire Fountain Court backing away from their plan to take it over, the new owner is Cantonese and it has reopened as Yet Another Chinatown Market (no, it's not called that, it's called Skyline Market, for some reason).
