My fiancee and I tried Banana Leaf tonight in Bay Ridge for the 1st time.
I'd been wanting to go to this place for a while, ever since I heard that the chef was a Jean-Georges and Mercer Kitchen alum.
The dominant note here is Malaysian, but there are plenty of fusion touches, especially in the chef's specialties. Don't be surprised to be a fois gras appetizer here and a sashimi special over there.
Prices are extremely reasonable ($2-6 for appetizers, $6-15 for most entrees, with the lower prices being for soups or rice dishes, both of which come in mammoth portions).
Service was sweet, atmosphere clean and pleasant. This place is about 10 steps from the Bay Ridge subway stop on the R line.
It deserves plenty of business, but was practically empty tonight. If you are looking for a delicious, healthy Asian option, I'd strongly encourage giving Banana Leaf a try...
