Giordano Brother's all-in-one sandwich

Oddly enough, this Pittsburgh, PA, inspired sandwich can be found smack in the middle of North Beach, on Columbus. Last night, my boyfriend and I walked past droves of people waiting to be seated at the nearby Stinking Rose (where I previously sampled the blandest tomato sauce this side of Prego), into the friendly atmosphere of Giordano Bros, a Steelers-style sports bar. We ordered 2 all-in-one's (a pastrami and copa) and probably received our order before the nearby Stinking Rose patrons got seated.

What's an all-in-one? Soft white Italian bread, fresh cut and fried french fries (yes, fries), peppery oil-and-vinegar cole slaw, grilled sandwich meat, and cheese. True to his Pittsburgh roots, my boyfriend squeezed a glob of ketcup on his platter and dipped his sandwich in the glob between bites. I preferred to savor the taste of the peppery copa, slaw, hot fries, and yummy bread.

Admittedly, the original all-in-one from Pittsburgh's Primanti Bros. is somehow tastier. Maybe it's because the slaw is more vinegary, or maybe it's some secret ingredient....but Giordano's is a delicious alternative when you're miles away from Steeler Nation.
