I was reading through the latest Food Arts, which is an industrial-strength food porn magazine for the restaurant trade, when I came across this item. And I realized the name was familiar because I had seen it on this very board.
Not to start a flame war, but at what price does a place become just too expensive for "hounding"? $300? $400? $500? Who the heck cares, it's tasty?
LOS ANGELES -- Masa Takayama confirmed the buzzing rumors: he will, in fact, close Ginza Sushi-Ko and relocate to Manhattan next year. His fellow tenants in the AOL Time Warner building, under construction at 58th St. and Central Park West, will be Thomas Keller, Jean-George Vongerichten, and other mega-stars. Takayama will start his meals at an astounding $400 to $500 per person, making every other luxe dining room in the Big Apple seem like an inexpensive night out in comparison. When asked why he's making the schlepp, he succintly replied, "Because I want the challenge."
