We broke all our eating out rules this v-day. We generally NEVER go out on those kind of holidays and rarely go out on Saturday night. I much prefer weekday non-event nights.

But friend had a special once-every-quarter baby-sitting deal and handled the reservations at Gina Lee's so we were game.

The restaurant got a bit slammed in the whole south bay culinary wasteland debacle of the LA Times. So I wanted to take this time to mention how nice this turned out.

No special menu, just the regular fair but they were obviously pretty busy (even more than a normal Sat. Night). Everything was handled swiftly and efficiently. We hit our 6:30 slot, seated immediately. Not much to say about the food other than it was great as always. After a couple of the usual appetizers, wife loved her bento box, I had one of the best duck breast entrees in a while. One of the better priced winelists in town (Turley Petite Syrah Hayne, Darioush Cab, etc. at ~$15-20 over retail if you can find them ). We had a nice Westerly Viognier and a Franus Cab that totalled $80. We asked about desert wine and Scott sent over a late harvest Sav Blanc that really finished it off well.

Three nice desserts and coffee and we were out at 9pm and were never rushed.

We regularly go to Melisse, Valentino's, Zax, Josie, amongst others, and really think our little southbay place holds up right in there. Screw the Times we'll keep it to ourselves. Let them have Patina.
