Giants on their game today, but what about the Let's Be Frank hot dogs?

With all the rain lately, I haven’t been down to Crissy Field in a while, and thus was particularly looking forward to enjoying a grass-fed beef hot dog from the “Let’s Be Frank” stand outside Acme Chop House before the Giants game today, on what was my first visit to the ballpark of the season. Given the odds for rain, I think I was looking forward to the dog more than too the game!

Well, as it turns out, the game vastly exceeded my expectations, but the dog didn’t quite live up to them! I am hoping it was just a case of going to long without a fix or all in my mind...but I don’t know...my hot dog just didn't seem to be quite as good as my last few dogs from LBF. First off, I ordered the dog ‘with’ (grilled onions) and when it was handed to me, actually thought a mistake had been made. I literally had to look under the hot dog to see a few barely carmelized grilled onions next to the bun. I must have made a face, however, because as soon as I did that the server kindly offered me more just before I was going to ask.....

My real question though, is whether they’ve changed the sausage itself: it seems longer and not quite as flavorful. Now, I know it seems odd to complain about a dog being longer, but it seemed to overwhelm the new Acme buns, and didn’t have as much spice or bite as I remember.

Oh well, maybe I am imagining it, but even if it has changed: The Let’s Be Frank Dog is waayyy better even when slightly off its game than the dogs in the park ever are, and is only $5, vs the all-beef dogs inside the park which are around $6.50. Another big plus is the difference in beer prices: The Acme outdoor bar had Sierra Nevada Summerfest on tap for $5 (an optimistic choice given the weather, but it went well with the dog). Cheapest microbrew in the park is something like $7 or $8...

There will be lots chances to check out the Let’s Be Frank stand in the future: I heard the server confirm to the guy in front of me in line that they will be there every home Giants game.
