Went to Gary Danko last night for my birthday. Overall, we had a good time.
My wife ordered:
-seared foie gras with caramelized onions, Fuji apples
-herb crusted lamb loin
-double choclate cake
-seared sea scallops
-roast lobster with chanterrele mushrooms
-lemon French toast with huckleberry compote
-Every dish was very good. Not quite up to some of the incredible preparations at The French Laundry in my opinion, but either was the price.
-The staff was very friendly.
-We liked the idea that you pick the number of courses and order from any part of the menu.
-Service was spotty. When we were seated, the hostess took our water order but the water never came. It was ten minutes until the waiter came over and acknowledged our presence. He left menus and the wine list but didn't return for a very long time. Wine glasses were not refilled during the entire dinner.
-The wine list had an extensive selection of very expensive wines but limited choices in the $40 to $60 range.
