Gargoyles in Davis Square Somerville is truly our standby "we want good food" restaurant. It's a rare occasion when I'm not completely satisfied with what I order. We went again on Tuesday night, ate in the bar area, and had such a great meal that I thought I'd post.

We didn't have a tremendous amount of food -- we split three items -- 2 from the bar menu and one salad from the regular menu. We left feeling satisfied but not bloated :-)

3 chips and 3 dips -- this came as three ramekins of different dips (red lentil, spicy black bean and a thick hummus) with three different chips (in order -- pappadum, chips and spiced toasted pita chips). All combinations were completely delicious. The waiter also scored big points (after initially coming off as having an attitude problem) by offering us more chips when he saw that we had more dip but no dippers!

Arugula salad -- this had carparchio of pear and a chunk of cheese (pecorino?) with a dressing that has now also escaped me. Anyway -- it was good and well dressed.

Open faced turkey sandwich -- a delicious hunk of turkey with wonderful sage dressing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Covered in gravy and on a soft (but not too soft) bread. Yum.

Bread basket was good -- had a lovely grainy bread in it as well as a foccacia type.

Total for the above + 3 drinks was $46 before tip. The place (bar and restaurant) was mostly empty on a Tuesday night around 7pm. Service was slow at first, started out with some attitude (maybe) but was eventually fine.
