Garden Cafe is a lovely setting for a quiet or romantic evening; the food is first rate. Now onto the meal: A bottle of CHateau Neuf du Pape, $40.00 very drinkable, full and mellow. App. were lightly cooked scallops over small green lentils, very nice,but best was the fois gras with fresh currents (or some type of small berry) and onion compote. Unbelievable silky, rich and nicely offset with the sweet and sour of the onions and currents. ENtrees were rib lamb chops on pureed white beans, perfectly cooked and so tender you almost did not need a knife. Nice lamb flavor, slightly charred on the outside. The other entree was a duck breast served in slices over sweet potatoes with grilled cabbage- excellent. Both entrees had nice light sauces derived and reduced from the the meats' natural juices. To finish up, two coffees, a black and white frozen parfait and lemon tapioca with rasberry coulis. Both light and a nice ending. Cost with tax and tip, $157.00.
The presentation is lovely - for the app and some of the desserts they use these plates with "wells" in them, giving the dishes an almost painted quality. All in all, a great meal in a lovely setting. This is not a place to go when you are in rush, want to people watch or in the mood for a lot of surrounding activity. But great for romance, introducing your parents to your significant other etc. We'll defintely go back.
