I'm heading to NY soon and have a fancy dinner lined up, but am also looking for a couple more casual places with fun, quirky dishes - I guess something along the lines of the french onion soup dumplings at stanton social (which I've never had, but idea-wise) or the reuben fritters they used to have at Diner, or (outside of NY) buffalo wing croquettes at Zola in DC, the potato/corn on a cob dish at Raku in Vegas, or the foie gras ravioli at Mercat in Chicago. I don't really care about the cuisine - can be American, Asian, vegetarian, whatever - I care more that it's interesting, non-typical, and not super expensive...Stanton Social wouldn't be too expensive, but WD-50 would. I am heading to laboratorio del gelato for some funky ice cream/gelato so that at least should be fun.
