Fugakyu...what's the fuss??

BigO | Sep 20, 2004 08:44 AM

Went to fugakyu for the first time (and probably the last)

The service was poor..and we felt rushed all night.

Food

Apps:

Sashimi - Reproted to be good, but some of the fish was obviously frozen and thawed (mushy and watery).

Tempura - Excellent...the best I've had

Entees:

Spicy Duck - Okay...not worth $20

Tonkatsu - Reported to be very good...they know how to fry.

Sushi rolls - Pretty bad. They were mushy and fell apart. Too much mayo, worse that most places I've been too. How can one campare this sushi to Oishii's??

Yaki-Udon: This was totally messed up. One of the simplest of japanese dishes was not even made properly. Just a pile of tasetless noodles, should have a tasty sauce. Plus you could not order it with pork...which is the default meat of choice in Japan. And, it was $16...what a rip off...its just noodles, should be <$10

I was quite disappointed. For high end japanese I am going to Oishii...for informal, I am headed to sushi 21 in watertown, the best neighorhood sushi joint in boston.

It always pays off to hit japanese restaurant run by japanese people.
