I'm having dinner Friday night with a friend who is visiting from northern England. I'd like a rec in the LAX/Culver City/West LA area. Santa Monica also would be reasonable.
Because she's not a big spender and we might get joined by a third person, I'm looking for a price range around $50 pp before wine and a Los Angeles sensibility. She's a big fan of sushi, but I'd like a place that also might have options for a non-sushi lover. Other possibilities would include Cal-Asian or Mexican. I'm less interested in Italian, Chinese or Indian, which she can get at home.
The last criteria is noise. This will be our only opportunity to talk, so I would like to avoid a place that is really noisy and has a big bar scene. I think that rules out a place like Border Grill, which would be a nice option in terms of food, but may be too loud. Perhaps a restaurant on the Sawtell corridor. Any thoughts?
